Photogrammetry and Photo-Based 3D Construction

ABSTRACT - "This paper explains the process of photogrammetry, from the image acquisition to the mesh tessellation. The investigation into the different stages of image processing shows how the computer interprets the data and how effective its methods are for reducing errors and artefacts that are present in images. The testing explores different variables that are encountered when taking the photography of the scene and how it affects the computers understanding when producing the point cloud data and mesh. Photogrammetry isn’t the only means of capturing 3D data. There are several different techniques which can be effective in different scenarios. Photogrammetry is utilised in a variety of industries in different ways. The focus of this paper’s study is on its role within Visual Effects for film and television."
